Mining Income and Qualifications??

my husband wants to go work in the mines, we have a 13 month old daughter and plan on having more kids so i only want to move so far away if its going to be financially worth it, as i will have no familly near me at all. how much do miners get a year? and is there any qualifications he should get before applying? he works for holden so he has no experience. thanks.
